Community Pulls Together To Support Family After Sudden Death

After the sudden death of a mother of three, the community is trying to help the family through a Go Fund Me campaign.

An outpouring of support has flooded in after the death of a mother of three.

32 year old Carolyn De Wit was found dead in the restaurant she worked at in Norwich. William Knapp of Norwich has been charged with criminal negligence causing death and trafficking Fentanyl in connection with her death.

Her husband Benjamin De Wit says the loss has hit the family very hard. "Carolyn was the greatest person I knew; she would go anywhere and light up a room, she'd talk to anyone and always be friendly and happy and smiling, and you'd know if she was in the room because she'd leave a lasting impression on you."

"She'd always be great with the kids," De Wit says. "Whatever they needed, she'd be there for them, even when they weren't so nice she'd be there for them and teach them how to be great kids, and they are. They're amazing because of her." She leaves behind two boys, 8 and 7, and a 4 year old little girl.

De Wit says they are doing the best they can to carry on. "For me I'm just trying to stay as busy as I can, trying to keep my mind off things and I went back to work, just trying to keep as busy as possible. The kids are great - they're dealing with it in their own way, but they don't fully grasp everything yet. That will come when they're older. But they are holding up alright."

A Go Fund Me account has been set up to help Benjamin and the children through this time, and well as help them move closer to family.
