Deal Reached Between Google and Ottawa

It's in regards to the Online News Act, Google will now pay the federal government

OTTAWA - The federal government has reached a deal with Google in terms of Bill C-18, also known as the Online News Act.

According to a CBC News article, Google will make annual payments of about $100-million to news companies, so Canadian news articles can be shared on Google's platforms.

Bill C-18 requires Google and Meta to pay Canadian newsmakers for the news they share on their sites.

Meta has blocked Canadian news from being shared on its platforms. This has affected media outlets across the country, including 104.7 Heart FM in Woodstock, 105.1 The River in Niagara Falls, and 101.1 More FM in Fort Erie. Meta has yet to reach a deal with Ottawa.
