OPP say employees at the Bank of Montreal on Broadway Street in Tillsonburg were instrumental in the arrest of a fraud suspect.
TILLSONBURG - Bank of Montreal employees jumped into action after a Brantford man attempted to defraud the bank. It was around 10 a.m. on Tuesday when OPP were called to a fraud in progress. A man had entered the branch attempting to obtain a debit card for an account he had previously opened at the bank. The bank teller alerted the manager after the man produced suspicious identification.
A loss of $1700 has been reported. Five banks were affected including the Tillsonburg Bank of Montreal, Scotiabank and CIBC. OPP suspect the fraud occurred from March 25, 2015 to April 7, 2015.
27 year old Matthew Ouderkirk of Brantford has been charged with 15 counts including identity theft, fraud and obtaining credit under false pretenses.
Ouderkirk is scheduled for a bail hearing today.
