A new advisory committee made up of two councillors and three members of the public has been proposed at City Council.
WOODSTOCK - A new committee could form following a motion proposed by Councillor Shawn Shapton
Councillor Shapton explains the purpose of forming this committee. "I brought forward a notice of motion to create a Fire Advisory Committee. Any time we have a chance to engage the public more in some of our major dollar value items I think is only going to benefit people. I know that the fire services are excited to have it as well and I am looking forward to creating this board and I will be sitting on this as well."
This was put forward to provide more of a direction to fire services in the city, and Shapton explains what the next steps are. "It will come to the next council meeting on December 10th, and it will be debated and voted on just like anything else. I'm hoping we will get a favourable outcome, and a rough estimate because of the holidays falling in there, the first meeting probably wouldn't happen until March."
"The voting members will be of two councillors and then there will be three members from the public and there will be preference given to the downtown BIA, and someone from the auto industry," Shapton says. "There will be some non-voting members, so the Chief, the Deputy Chief, potentially the public relations officer, and potentially someone from the association as well."
