The first in-person Hike for Hospice since COVID began will takeover Roth Park on Saturday, September 17th.
WOODSTOCK - Registration is now open for the first in-person Hike for Hospice since COVID began.
The fundraiser will be taking place in Roth Park on Saturday, September 17th this year. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. and there will also be a special tribute ceremony at 10:00 a.m.
Fund Development Coordinator Michelle Dykstra says it's an all-ages event, adding they will have a special scavenger hunt for the kids.
"We'll give every kid that comes there a little bag and there is a list in there of different items they can look for while they are on the trail. It's just a way to keep the kids engaged and keep them distracted while they're walking. When they're done they can come back and show us what they got and have some cool prizes for them as well."
Ms. Sara Face Painting will also be on site for the kids and the Sweaburg Lions will be offering a free barbeque lunch as well.
Cassandra Benard, the Chair of the Hike for Hospice Committee, says all of the proceeds will be going to Sakura House.
"Sakura House is our palliative care house in Woodstock and palliative care is helping people transition at the end of their life with dignity and comfort. Sakura House has been open here in Woodstock for about 12 years now but were fundraising long before that. It's just a really vital service here in Woodstock that we're really excited to continue supporting."
You can sign up as an individual or as part of the team for the event. Those interested in supporting the cause can find more information online here.
Michelle Dykstra and Cassandra Benard both stopped by the Heart FM studio on Thursday August 18th to chat with Dan and Marcie about Hike for Hospice. You can listen to the full interview below.
