During yesterdays, July 11th, County Council meeting intimate partner violence was declared an epidemic in Oxford County.
OXFORD COUNTY - During the last County Council meeting, many things were discussed such as the unanimous decision to declare intimate partner violence an epidemic.
At yesterdays meeting, Ingamo Homes brought forth a delegation about the severity of intimate partner violence in Oxford County.
Warden, Marcus Ryan on the impact of the delegation.
" The Ingamo Homes delegation on intimate partner violence was a very hard delegation to listen to. There are people in our community, usually women who are forced to choose between, do I stay in a home and frequently keep shelter for my children? But then I have to basically accept violence."
The idea behind the declaration is giving domestic abuse support services a boost in funding.
The County also referred it to the safe and well Oxford plan which deals with mental health services in order to actually make a difference.
