The Canadian Cancer Society of Oxford County has opened registration for the third annual Cool Runnings Trail Race
WOODSTOCK - Feel the Rythm Feel the Ride... Watch Out Oxford It's Cool Runnings time!
The Canadian Cancer Society of Oxford County is already gearing up for their third annual Cool Runnings race taking place at Roth Park in Woodstock on Saturday October 24th. This not for profit race offers 5 km and 10 km mixed surfaces course along with a kid fun run through the Pittock Conservation Area and Burgess Park.
Community Fundraising Specialist Liz Wismer-Van Meer tells Heart FM this is one of their most popular fundraisers.
"The setting is really picturesque - it's a beautiful time of the year. October 24th is the date and of course fall is setting in, the leaves are changing, and it's just that really nice scenery that adds to the run along the historic Thames River and Roth Park and one of the cool features this year is the runners will actually get to run up to Pittock Dam."
The Cancer Society has a number of cool prizes lined up and the first 200 people to register will get a drawstring bag courtesy of Goodlife Fitness.
Last year's event raised over $7 000 and they are hoping reach $10 000 this year with all of the money going towards cancer research.
Early Bird registration fees are offered until September 15th: $25 for the 5K and $40 for the 10K. Prices increase September 16th to $30 for the 5K and $45 for the 10K and again on October 22nd to $35 for the 5K and $50 for the 10K. October 23rd is the final day for registrations.
The Kid Fun Run is a flat rate of $15 until October 23rd. The fee includes post-race snacks, beverages and prizes. Roth Park provides plenty of free parking, shelter, and is only minutes from highway 401.
You can register online at www.cancer.ca/coolrunnings or at the Cancer Society on Springbank Ave in Woodstock.
