The retirement of the current Fire Chief in East Zorra-Tavistock has prompted changes to the organizational structure.
EAST ZORRA-TAVISTOCK - East Zorra-Tavistock is strengthening its leadership and service delivery with a new organizational structure.
The Township will establish a new Community and Protective Services Department, as well as the Infrastructure Services Department. Mayor Phil Schafer says how this will help the Township.
"What we did was we worked out a solution that really does two things. It fills these roles with qualified people and also puts succession planning in motion to ensure we have strong leadership now and in the future in the township."
Tom Lightfoot currently serves as Director of Infrastructure and Community Services, but will lead the new Department as the Director of Community and Protective Services and Fire Chief, while Claire Ohrling, currently Engineering Technologist/Drainage Superintendent, will assume the role and responsibility of Director of Infrastructure Services. Schafer mentions why each person is suited for the role they will be taking over.
"Tom Lightfoot has got over 20 years' experience as a Hixon firefighter, and he's also got strong management skills and strong organizational skills. Claire Orling is a very valued employee. She's an engineer and this new role she has expands on her responsibilities and we feel she's up to the challenge."
The changes will take effect Monday, October 12th, with transition planning already underway to support employees, maintain service delivery and ensure a smooth implementation.
