It's mental Health week and 25 local organizations are coming together with the hopes getting people to talk about mental health
25 agencies in the County are coming together to show their support for mental health week. A children's mental health fair at the Civic Arena is happening on Monday. That is put on by the Oxford Elgin Child and Youth Centre and it runs from 4-6:30 today and they will provide a free BBQ to anyone who stops by.
Community Engagement & Volunteer Development Coordinator Kathlene Campbell-Conlon tells Heart FM they will be hosting events all week.
"We have an open house at CMHA and Oxford Self Help on Wednesday, we have an Open House at the Woodstock Hospital on Thursday, for everyone living in Tillsonburg there is an Open House and Service Fair at the Livingston Centre on Thursday morning."
Campbell-Conlon says they also really want to promote the get loud oxford hashtag and encourage people to talk about mental health.
"So we are really focusing on just getting awareness out there that we do have resources and we have 25 agencies in the County that are here to help you and support you no matter what and then we are using the #getloudoxford. The whole idea about getting loud is to just get loud about mental health, talk about it, that's one of the hardest things for people is just talk about mental health and then when you do talk about it, you find out you are not alone and in fact 1 in 5 Canadians suffer from some form of mental health related issues."
