Twenty new community safety zones have been approved in Oxford County. They're located in 13 communities including Woodstock, Ingersoll, Norwich, Tavistock, and Thamesford.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council has approved 20 new community safety zones.
Manager of Transportation and Waste Management, Frank Gross explains what this means.
"What that does, is it identifies areas of special safety concern and allows police to impose increased fines for speeding in those areas."
Gross adds the 20 areas would also be eligible for automated speed enforcement or photo radar, should the County implement an automated speed enforcement program in the future.
He mentions where some of the spots will be.
"Some of the areas in Woodstock for example, Devonshire Ave from Huron Street past Lansdowne will be a Community Safety Zone, Vansittart north of Woodstock by the soccer parks by Lakeview Drive up to the roundabouts."
He says other zones will be in Beachville, Bright, Drumbo, Harrington, Hickson, Ingersoll, Innerkip, Kintore, Norwich, Otterville, Tavistock, and Thamesford. You can read more about the new safety zones and their exact locations online here.
