New Exhibits Open At the Woodstock Art Gallery

It's curtains for the Evelyn Hart exhibit at the Woodstock Art Gallery, but there are three exciting new exibits to check out

WOODSTOCK - The Woodstock Art Gallery is introducing some new winter exhibitions.

There is the Joe Lima and Walter Redinger: Unlimited Possibilities exhibit which features some large scale wood cuts designed by artist Joe Lima.

Observations of the Glass Home features artwork from the permanent collection gallery and looks at different ways people deal with their natural environment. Mary Reid, the Director and Curator at the gallery says this exhibit features some artwork by London based artist Tom Benner.

"We were able to work quite closely with Tom over the last year to have him fully restore and conserve the work and now it's the cornerstone of that exhibition".

Finally there is Art Beat, which is a mentorship program that pairs professional artists with a local junior and senior art class. Reid tells Heart FM about the classes and artists currently involved with the exhibit.

"This year we have Ms. McMahon's Grade 5 class from Springbank Public School. They worked very closely with Sarah Cowling to do these extraordinarily beautiful mix media collage projects. Ron Milton, who is a very well known senior print maker worked with Mr. Hoekstra's Grade 11 and 10 class at Huron Park Secondary School".

The gallery recently closed their ballet exhibit featuring some costumes prima ballerina Evelyn Hart wore in the Winnipeg Ballet. Reid says the Evelyn Hart exhibit recieved a lot of positive feedback from the public.

"One of the things that really kind of warms my heart is we had a number of school tours in November and December. What we noticed was the little boys seemed to twirl around a little more enthusiastically than the little girls. They just wanted to dance within the works and so that was quite a remarkable reaction".

You can visit the gallery free of charge but donations are always appreciated.
