Oxford County Addresses Connectivity Problems in Drumbo

Oxford County will be spending $225 000 to improve communication in the Drumbo area

DRUMBO - Oxford County has agreed to relocate and replace the Drumbo wide area network tower to address structural problems and diminished Internet connectivity in the area.

Warden David Mayberry tells Heart FM why the County wanted to fix this problem.

"The tower didn't have the kind of reach that we wanted to have in the broader community, especially in the rural areas, so we are doing the rural emergency communication system and it became apparent that the tower either to be higher or in a different location or both. The idea was that they needed to replace the tower so we're going to replace the tower and move it and build it higher so it is more effective because what we want to do is make sure we have good effective communication across the whole area."

It is going to cost $225 000 to replace the tower which was not anticipated in the County Budget so the money will have to come from the facilities reserves. Mayberry says the County was concerned because the low Internet activity can cause problems with communications for the County, particularly for emergency services. Work should start in the next couple of months.
