The county will reap the benefits of its $17 million investment after 15 years.
OXFORD - County Council has approved the implementation of the Renewable Energy Action Plan (REAP).
The plan will run until 2032 and is part of the goal to reach 100 per cent renewable energy by 2050.
Warden Larry Martin says 30-40 projects have been narrowed down to 23 using a cost-efficiency model, and that the projects will cut greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 34 per cent from the 2015 level. Martin provided examples of what will be worked on.
"They're mostly solar photo voltaic systems, geothermal and air source heat pump systems, and heat recovery systems. They're also going to be watching and looking out over the next 10 years for any new technology that comes along that may help enhance what we can do and move it forward even quicker."
The plan is said to cost the county $17 million over the next decade, but after a 15-year pay-back strategy, the county will start to reap the benefits and earn off its investment.
