Oxford OPP have responded to many calls regarding many different problems associated with off-road vehicles.

OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford OPP focuses on off-road vehicle safety.

Improper operation, excessive speed, stunt driving, impairment, lack of protective equipment, and riding in unauthorized areas continue to contribute to calls for service in Oxford County. Police are reminding riders that off-road vehicles operated in Ontario must be registered, display a licence plate, and be insured. Operators must carry proof of registration and insurance and produce the documents upon request.

Drivers and riders are reminded to put safety first when operating off-road vehicles. Below are some of the key safety reminders when riding an off-road vehicle.

  • Always wear an approved motorcycle helmet that is securely fastened.
  • Never operate an ORV while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
  • Ride at a speed appropriate for trail, weather, and terrain conditions.
  • Ensure passengers are only carried where permitted by the manufacturer and legislation.
  • Conduct a pre-ride inspection of tires, brakes, lights, steering, and fluid levels.
  • Stay on designated trails and obtain permission before riding on private property.
  • Do not partake in risky behaviours such as stunt driving.

Riders, and in some cases both riders and owners, of ORVs may face charges for offences including operating without insurance, failing to wear a helmet, careless driving, driving while impaired, operating an unregistered vehicle, mischief and trespassing.
