Police say the driver drove through a road closure barricade Thursday afternoon.

SHAKESPEARE - The Perth OPP is reminding drivers out there to pay attention while they're behind the wheel.

This comes after officers responded to a nearly fatal incident on Line 34 yesterday between Road 104 and Road 106, east of Shakespeare.

In a video posted on the OPP West Region X page, Sergeant Ed Sanchuk said the call came in at around 4:20 p.m.

"Upon arrival, police located a 65-year-old individual from Kitchener who was struck by a vehicle that drove through a road closure barricade, that you see directly behind me, which had been erected to divert traffic away from an earlier collision scene. The victim was transported to hospital for further treatment."

Those injuries have been described as life threatening, and no further details have been released.

Sanchuk added that the driver in this incident is not the only one to attempt this dangerous act.

"I'd also like to not that while standing here speaking about this incident, another vehicle at the other end where this road is closed just failed to stop a barricades and collided with a vehicle blocking the roadway. Thankfully no injuries were reported, but drivers need to slow down and pay attention so these unecessary and preventable collisions are avoided."

Police would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed this incident or have dash cam or outdoor surviellence footage of the area around that time. Anyone with information should call the Perth OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
