WOODSTOCK - A refugee family from Burma has settled into Woodstock thanks to the Bethany Lutheran Church.
The church has been working for a long time to sponsor the family from Burma. Larry Moore tells Heart FM about some of the work they have done to make sure the family made it into Canada.
"Primarily a lot of the fundraising was done through the church, a lot of people have contributed articles to be able to make use of for the family, there has been a tremendous response from the community to assist with them getting settled into their home."
The family of four had been living in a refugee camp in Thailand for a number of years and arrived in Canada with practically nothing.
"They came from a camp, so they didn't come out with too many articles of their own and when they arrived here in Toronto at the airport they had very few belongings."
The family consists of a mom, a dad, and two little girls and they arrived in Canada in April.
"The young family of four who had lived in a refugee camp in Thailand are thrilled to be in Canada and so warmly welcomed into the community and we would like to thank everyone who has donated time, money and household items to get settled and to thank those who continue to support the family over the next year."
