Oxford County Pride an event for families and an event just for the grown ups to spread understanding and acceptance.
WOODSTOCK - Oxford County LGBTQ Pride Committee is hosting a couple of events in Woodstock.
On Saturday June 18th they are having a family fun day at Southside Park from 1- 4 p.m. and then in the evening they are hosting a concert at Riff's Nightclub which is for adults only. Chair Person for the committee Tami Murray tells Heart FM some of the things they have planned for the family event at Southside Park.
"We will have kids' karaoke, lot's of kids crafts and games and a number of community service organizations there. We are hoping to about 10 to 15 tables, i.e. Oxford Child Youth Centre, CMHC, as well the Health Unit, Shoppers Drug Mart and a few others."
Murray says the event promises to be fun for everyone and they hope it will help make Oxford County a safer and more inclusive community.
"The goal is to dispel homophobia, looking at heterosexism and how we can make Oxford County a safer more inclusive community, we like to promote awareness as well as education. I think education is key and it does happen in our backyard; I have two kids that have two moms and my kids are constantly having to dispel myths of homophobia."
Baca will be playing on the Saturday night from 8 to midnight at the Riffs Nightclub.
