Ward 4 in South-West Oxford now has a second candidate in the running for the upcoming municipal election.
SOUTH-WEST OXFORD - Ward 4 in South-West Oxford has a second candidate.
John de Bruyn has come forward and put his name on the ballot. de Bruyn says why now is the time to try and get a seat on council.
"I've always had an interest in local events and in politics. Over the years I've been quite involved in agricultural commodity groups and such. And so, with a little bit more time on my hands now watching my children and grandchildren starting to run the farm, I've got the opportunity, and I think I've got the talent and the time to take an active role in what's going on in my local community here."
He says the current council has done a great job, but with councillors retiring, he feels he is a part of the next generation that needs to step in. de Bruyn says what makes him a strong candidate.
"The will to contribute, I think. I've got a fair bit of experience in running meetings and being on board, so that takes a while to learn as well, and I hope I bring common sense to the idea of helping manage the township."
Residents in South-West Oxford will head to the polls and cast their ballots for the municipal election on Monday, October 26, 2026.
