Some representatives from Taiwan are touring Oxford County is order to learn more about the history of George Leslie McKay and Oxford County's ongoing renewable energy projects.
OXFORD COUNTY - Some representatives from Taiwan are seeing everything Oxford County has to offer.
They are touring the county with local dignitaries and high school students, checking out some of the renewable energy projects that are currently underway. Some of the stops on their tour include the wind turbines installed along Highway 59 south of Woodstock and the location of the upcoming sustainability cluster.
Warden David Mayberry says their visit is all about growing the partnership and friendship between Oxford and Taipei.
"We're seeking both partnerships and also to see if there is any interest in them being involved in the economic development of some of these projects."
Some of the other stops on their tour include the Woodstock Courthouse, Gunn's Hill Artisan Cheese and the McKay Homestead in Embro.
Catherine Hsu is the Director General of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Toronto. She says they are excited to explore the homeland of George Leslie McKay.
"Oxford is such a special place to us because of Dr. McKay and the already existent relations on many many parts."
There is also an ongoing educational partnership between Taiwan and Oxford. Each year some students from Woodstock Collegiate Institute do an exchange with students from Danshui, Oxford's sister city in Taiwan.
