Students got to skip class and watch their teachers get dunked on by professional basketball players at IDCI today.
INGERSOLL - The Ingersoll Blue Bombers Mental Health and Wellness team organized a teachers vs London Lightning game for the students today.
Students got to skip class and watch their teachers get dunked on by professional basketball players. The Mental Health and Wellness Team was created to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness. It's no secret Oxford County has had it's struggles with mental illness recently especially with youth and P.E. Teacher Tila Cassone tells Heart FM events like this tend to really lift the spirits of the students.
"Oxford County has had their fair share of tough times recently and we do need this uplift. These kind of events invite everybody to come out, take a break from studies and everything we call life and just take some time out to do something different, do something fun and try to just change the focus sometimes. I can't stress enough these kids need it, they have got a lot on their plates."
Grade 12 student and mental health and wellness team member Brittany Brennan says the Lightning have been at these events before.
"They have done events with us before, mental health is something that is very close to them as well because they have a few players who are affected by that. I know we have another event coming up next week within our school where they have one of their players coming in to do some one on one's with some of our students."
