It was a busy weekend for Oxford OPP who were patrolling our local roads and highways all weekend long.
Over the course of three days police in the West Region which includes Oxford handed out 105 tickets for failing to move over for emergency vehicles. They also issued 979 tickets for speeding, 15 charges for racing, 42 for not wearing a seat belt and 33 for distracted driving. 18 people were also charged with impaired driving.
It was a tragic Holiday weekend on the roads as well over in Huron County where three people riding motorcycles were killed after getting hit by other vehicles. Another person on the bikes is fighting for his life in a London Hospital. None of the collisions were the fault of the bike operator.
West Region Commander Chief Superintendent J. Cain says
"Sadly for some, these numbers don’t mean much until tragedy hits close to home. Safety can only be improved when everyone becomes part of the solution."
