Huron Public Health has confirmed two cases of COVID-19 within Greenwood Court, a long term care home in Stratford.
STRATFORD - Huron Public Health has confirmed two cases of COVID-19 within a long term care home in Stratford.
The cases were confirmed at Greenwood Court within the last 48 hours. Both residents are currently in isolation and Greenwood Court is following up with close contacts of the confirmed cases. Huron Perth Public Health is working closely with the facility to provide further infection control support.
This is the third confirmed case of COVID-19 in a long-term care setting in Huron and Perth. Huron Perth Public Health received notification of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 at Hillside Manor near Sebringville this past weekend.
Medical Officer of Health Miriam Klassen says that as of today, all three confirmed cases are experiencing symptoms but are not hospitalized.
“These confirmed cases are indeed concerning. Seniors are a vulnerable population and are more likely to experience severe symptoms of COVID-19. We are following up and monitoring these situations closely. Unfortunately we expect to see more COVID-19 cases in long-term care homes in Perth and Huron Counties in the coming weeks as more test results come in.”
CEO of Greenwood Court Dr. Steven Harrison says they are taking this very seriously.
“We recognize the seriousness of COVID-19 and the impacts that it can have on the physical and emotional health of our residents. We are working closely with Huron Perth Public Health to make sure all precautions are being taken to protect our residents, as well as our valued staff.”
Huron Perth Public Health will continue to share information about COVID-19 in our community through its website, social media, and through our staff on our phone intake line, Health Line.
