A group of women have recently donated $3 800 to Ingamo Homes as part of a new initiative.
OXFORD COUNTY - A new local group is already assisting charities in the area.
100 Women Who Care Oxford was created earlier this year and founder of the generous organization, Kelly Edmonds, says this group raises money in an interesting way. "A group of women get together 4 times a year, each of those women contribute $100 at each meeting to donate to a charity in our own community. We have members nominate 3 charities and then they take a vote at our meeting, and the charity that gets the most votes is the charity that is selected to receive the money." The concept was first experimented on in the United States. When membership reaches 100 people, the total money collected will accumulate to $10 000 every time they meet that will be given back to local charities.
Edmonds is pleased with how far their membership has come but more women are always welcome. "As for our meeting in August we had 38 members. Since that meeting we have gained 4 or 5 other members that are interested. We have donated $2 500 to the Power of Hope Community Organization at our meeting in August, we donated $3 800 to Ingamo Homes."
Edmonds says there are two ways a charity can receive a donation. "The first is, obviously, that they are an Oxford County charity and the second is the money has to stay locally. Our goal is to get to 100 women at least so that 4 times a year we can raise $10 000. We want to be able to reach as many of the smaller local charities that we can."
