A Hands On Way To Experience Oxford County

People in Oxford County can learn more about their community through a tourism experience.

OXFORD COUNTY - Tourism Oxford is offering three new tourism experiences in Oxford County.

Gunn’s Hill Artisan Cheese is among the businesses participating this year, along with Upper Thames Brewing Company and wildlife artist Rhonda Franks.

Tourism Specialist for Oxford County, Meredith Maywood says the public will learn and participate in different activities through the three tourism experiences.

"One would be the Gunn’s Hill Artisan Cheese where you learn about the art of aging cheese and you're sitting and working alongside the cheesemakers there and then everybody gathers at the end and they enjoy a fondue meal, that they'd ve made themselves as a group. There's also brewed exploration at Upper Thames Brewing, where people get right down to the grain with the beer and learn about great collaborations that are happening there. Then we also have creative nature where people get out and explore nature through an artist's eyes and then come together to make a piece of art. Even people who feel they have no artistic talent will be inspired by that experience and be able to make a beautiful piece to hang proudly at home."

Maywood says they're putting on the tourism experience for the community to get an inside glimpse of some of the local creators and storytellers. This comes after last year's tourism experiences, where the community participated in similar activities with SixThirtyNine, Ottercreek Woodworks and Chocolatea.

She says the experiences will not only attract new visitors, but it will allow the public to learn more about the local businesses in their community.

"We're actually wanting to bring visitors into the area to experience our community in a new way and celebrate our local stories, so we're hoping people will get a greater appreciation of everything that's available in Oxford County and what our story is. And doing it in an intimate setting with a unique storyteller is a great way to get to know a community."

The experiences being offered have been created by the businesses themselves, and people can book and attend an experience on that businesses' website.

Maywood says they plan on continuing to offer more tourism experiences in the future.

"There's six experiences now available in Oxford County where you can get out with a chocolatier, a woodmaker, a cheesemaker, an artisan, a brewer and a chef and there's going to be more experiences coming out later this year, and hopefully leading into next year as well. There's always going to be some great opportunities to get out and explore Oxford County."

The tourism experiences run throughout the year based on the businesses' schedules. You can learn more information online
