Act of Kindness

St. Paul's Anglican Church hosts Inn Out of the Cold

Inn Out of the Cold gets an early Christmas gift.

WOODSTOCK - Christmas came early to Inn Out of the Cold in Woodstock.

Coordinator Paul Arsenault says the shelter was the recipient of random acts of kindness this week.

"We had a family come in. Their one daughter just had a birthday -- I think she just turned 12 -- she donated her birthday money. It's kind of a heart warming story to see young people getting involved to help those in need." Arsenault says a man who formerly used their services donated 100 DVD movies and a Blu Ray player."It's a success story for sure having someone who had to use some of the services from Operation Sharing at one time and now, you know, he is in a situation where he can give back and he was grateful for the opportunity to do so and we were grateful to have that opportunity to have him donate to us." Great Northern Insulation also donated several blankets.

Arsenault says all of the donations came as a complete surprise. "It's the community taking care of its own. Sometimes people slip through the cracks but I can honestly say here in Oxford County, they do a very good job to help those who are less fortunate and our guests are very grateful to be able to stay in the shelter because this is the only shelter in Oxford County that caters to men, women and children over the age of 16."

Arsenault say so far this year they are averaging about 4 people per night at the shelter but he expects that number to rise come the first of December.

Inn Out of the Cold operates nightly out of Old St. Paul's Anglican Church from 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM, serving anyone over 16 in need of food and shelter.
