Canadian Food Inspection Agency confirms h5 strain at broiler breeder chicken farm.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has confirmed the presence of avian flu at a broiler breeder chicken farm in Oxford County. The farm is now under quarantine to prevent the spread of the disease. Tests were conducted at the University of Guelph on April 17th after there were several unexpected chicken deaths at the farm over several days. The CFIA says all birds on the farm will be humanely destroyed. Further testing is being undertaken to determine the type of strain.
This comes after 29 farms in Ontario were placed under quarantine following the confirmation of the h5 avian flu at a turkey farm just outside of Woodstock.
