Beachville will celebrate the first recorded game of baseball next Saturday.
BEACHVILLE - A historic event will be celebrated in Beachville.
On Saturday May 31st, the Beachville District Museum and the Zorra Heritage Committee will be hosting Baseball, Buddies and Burgers. Curator/Manager of the Museum, Stephanie Radu explains what its all about.
"Really what it's meant to do is just raise awareness of that first recorded game, engage our local community and baseball as it was played in the early 1800s and really bring together a group of partners that are super enthusiastic about baseball in Canada and about the history of baseball as well."
Radu adds the game being celebrated next week is much different than the current game we watch on TV.
"So yeah, there's a lot of differences and we would love to go over some of those and share some of those with the participants, so they can really get a good grasp of how much has really changed."
Some of the differences include, not using gloves, there was an extra base, and you could throw the ball at the runner to get them out.
The event in Beachville will not only include a re-enactment baseball game, but also some baseball artifact, youth activities and more. It will run from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and tickets can be purchased online here.
