A mortgage agent would like to bring his financial skills to Blandford-Blenheim Council and Oxford County Council.
BLANDFORD-BLENHEIM - He would like to make life more affordable for people in Blandford-Blenheim and Oxford County.
Clay Haight is a mortgage agent with Elite Mortgage Group out of Kitchener, and he has decided to run for Mayor of Blandford-Blenheim Township.
He was born and raised in Oxford County, growing up in Norwich Township before moving to Woodstock with his wife in 2015. They made the move to Blandford-Blenheim in 2020, where they are currently raising their daughter in their forever home.
He says fiscal responsibility is very important to him.
"I've seen it first hand how it can make a positive or a negative change and I think that is no different from how municipal side or our county side for how we look at our budgets."
If he's elected this fall, Haight would like to use his financial skills to help both the township and the county be more prudent with their budgets to keep the costs down, so the property taxes could be more affordable for residents.
He would also like to address the garbage bag tags.
"We're one of two counties that still don't give at least one free bag of garbage a week for people. It may be a smaller amount for people every week, but $3 is $3 and if everyone does a bag its over $150 a year that people are paying out of pocket that other counties around us are not doing."
Haight would advocate for more green spaces as well, as long as they are done in a way that's financially responsible.
The municipal election is scheduled for October 26th.
