The Interlibrary Loan Service has been discontinued effective immediately in Ontario and the Oxford County Library is asking that any borrowed materials through that program need to be returned ASAP.
OXFORD COUNTY - The Provincial Government announced last week that they are making some serious cuts to Libraries in Ontario.
The Southern Ontario Library Service, which includes Oxford County will see a 50 percent cut to their budget. The Oxford County Library staff is still trying to understand the service impact this will have on our community, given the sudden nature of this budget cut.
They have issued the following statement online saying that the all interlibrary loan service in Ontario has been discontinued, effective immediately. Here is the full statement from Oxford County Library.
"We regret to inform our customers that due to recent provincial budget cuts impacting the Southern Ontario Library Service, all interlibrary loan (ILLO) service in Ontario has been discontinued effective immediately.
All interlibrary loan materials should be returned as soon as possible, as there will be no cost-free delivery service in place as of April 26. No new requests can be accepted at this time.
Given the sudden nature of this budget cut, we are still trying to understand the service impact for our community."
We will be talking with the libraries this week to see what other programs and services will be lost with these budget cuts.
