The border will open to all fully vaccinated travellers on September 7 without a quarantine period.
Canada will open the border to fully vaccinated Americans starting on August 9th without a quarantine period.
Minister of Health Patty Hajdu made the official announcement this afternoon during a 1:30 pm news conference.
"Travellers will have to be fully vaccinated with a Health Canada authorized vaccine, at least 14 days before entering the country."
Starting on September 7th, anyone who has been fully vaccinated can enter the country for non essential purposes without having to quarantine. The United States has yet to announce when Canadians can head south for non essential travel.
Hajdu says the Government mandated hotel stay will be lifted.
"As of August 9th, the 3 night Government authorized hotel stay requirement will be eliminated for all travellers. Travellers will now be able to go to their quarantine location, to complete their quarantine requirement."
Hajdu says they will also create a quarantine exemption for children 12 and under, who are not eligible for the vaccine. Kids will still need to follow strict public health guidelines.
"This means they can accompany their parent or guardian outside of the house to their destination, so long as they avoid group settings like summer camps, school or child care for 14 days."
The current quarantine rules will not change for partially vaccinated and non vaccinated travellers.
