The Coldest Night of the Year walk will make its return to Woodstock and Oxford County in 2025.
WOODSTOCK - Registration is now open for the next Coldest Night of the Year Walk in Woodstock.
It will be taking place on Saturday, February 22nd and all of the money raised will be going to Operation Sharing.
The local event hit the $150,000 fundraising goal on the day of the walk last year, so Organizer Scott McKague has a different goal in mind for this year.
"Considering everything that's going on in the world and understanding is difficult for everyone, we did drop the goal down just a little bit to $140,000. Selfishly for me as the Director of the event, that was too stressful for me to have it happen on the day of. I would love to hit the $140,000 goal a few weeks ahead of the walk and maybe raise the goal there or just give everyone the good feeling that we accomplished a giant number of fundraising dollars."
About 400 people registered for last year's event, raising about $160,000 in the end.
Tim Dukes, the Executive Director of Operation Sharing, says all of the money raised is put to good use.
"We do have a partnership with Oxford County which does help the shelter side of Operation Sharing. But the program side; the day space, the support, all of the programs including the meal program, all come from donations. With Coldest Night of the Year being our only big fundraiser of the year, it's very vital to our program and what we're trying to do."
The Woodstock walk will follow the same route this year, with everyone leaving College Ave Secondary School at 5:00 p.m.
You can register for the event online here.
Coldest Night of the Year events will also be taking place in Tillsonburg and Ingersoll on Saturday, February 22nd, 2025. They will be raising money for United Way Oxford.
