Oxford County made a lot of progress when it came to addressing homelessness and affordable housing in 2023.
OXFORD COUNTY - Oxford County Council is about to get its annual update for the 10-Year Shelter Plan.
It's one of the topics on the council agenda for today's meeting, which will begin at 9:30 a.m. You can find the full agenda online here.
The shelter plan sets out the county's targets when it comes to addressing affordable housing and homelessness, and a lot of progress was made last year alone.
An additional 18 affordable housing units also opened in Tillsonburg and the work began on two prospective affordable housing projects in Tillsonburg and Zorra. The construction and development stages also began for two projects in Woodstock that will create 92 rental units, including 52 affordable units.
Thirty-nine individuals who were experiencing homelessness were moved into transitional or permanent housing last year. Tillsonburg also now has an overnight cold emergency shelter, in addition to the 24/7 shelter that's available in Woodstock.
The Oxford County Council meeting will be livestreamed on the County's website.
