Oxford County Council approves All-Way stop for Oxford Road 13 and Oxford Road 18 intersection.
NORWICH - Oxford County Council has approved the creation of a four-way stop at a dangerous intersection in Norwich. Two arterial roads Oxford Road 13 and Oxford 18 is the intersection that has been the site of many accidents and near misses.
Norwich Mayor Don Doan had mixed feelings about the decision to put in an all-way stop. "Well the four-way stop is, I use the word temporary maybe that's not correct it may be there for several years, but we need to be looking down the road at it, something much different than a four-way stop." Doan was hoping for a roundabout or light system to help curb the number of accidents.
The intersection previously had a two-way stop which was problematic as the road has an 80 kilometre an hour posted speed that makes it difficult for drivers to slow down.
Director of Public Works, Rob Walton had this to say,"this intersection continues to have accidents and what's been reported by the residents that we believe to be true is a lot of near misses as well."
Walton adds the interesection did not meet the criteria for a light or roundabout system.
