115 Volunteers to Participate in United Ways Day of Caring Thursday
WOODSTOCK - Local non-profit organizations are about to get a much needed boost thanks to the United Way of Oxford.
Thursday they are hosting their annual Day of Caring in which local workplace volunteers roll up their sleeves in the community and complete some much needed projects.
Campaign Coordinator at United Way Oxford, Amanda Kreiger says this year, volunteers will be tackling projects in Woodstock, Ingersoll and Tillsonburg.
"This year we have 115 volunteers taking part and we have 15 projects, so that's the most volunteers and the most projects that we have had since 2006."
Kreiger says OPP and volunteers from T-D Canada Trust will prepare and serve breakfast to students in Tillsonburg, in addition to several other projects.
"We are also doing some work at the Navy League, doing some drywalling in their classrooms. Doing some painting at Sakura House here in Woodstock and helping to bbq."
Kreiger says volunteers always walk away from the day feeling great about what they accomplished.
"Not everybody has the ability to make monetary donations and this is the perfect way to go back to how the United Way was founded and just bringing people together and making a difference in our communities. People walk away from the day feeling like they have done something really special and have been very helpful because these projects wouldn't happen without the volunteers."
Kreiger says you can volunteer for the "Day of Caring" or help out with sponsorships any time of the year by contacting the United Way Oxford.
