Domestic Violence is a huge concern right now as isolation empowers abusers. Ingamo Homes and DASO are ready and willing to help anyone in Oxford County get out of an abusive situation.
WOODSTOCK - These difficult times can be even more so for those that find themselves in an abusive situation.
Those that find themselves isolated with an abusive partner are at greater risk of falling victim to domestic violence. Isolation empowers abusers.
Worldwide we have seen a 20 percent increase in domestic violence according to the UN Population Fund. As with previous global crises, specifically the financial crisis of 2008, DASO did not see a rise or fall in requests for services until after the crisis was over.
Domestic Abuse Services Oxford (DASO) is operating and they are here for you 24/7. You can reach them by calling 1-800-265-1938 or 519-539-4811 or text to 519-788-9993 or go to www.daso.ca and click on “Get Help”.
You may find it difficult to reach out at this time but please know that in addition to DASO, there are many community services working and ready to help you. You have friends, family and neighbours who also care for you and want to help. You are not alone. In an emergency, please call the police. More information can be found on the website.
Ingamo Homes is currently offering support services by telephone. Beginning next week, Ingamo will have a physical presence at the office, adhering to current social distancing regulations, with staff rotating daily shifts.
Ingamo Homes continues to offer counselling, support and referral services to women in our program, as well as women in the out-reach program. Staff are working closely with other community partners such as Family Violence Counselling Program staff to support the women who are in Stages Program and Supportive Mothering.
Ingamo Homes can be reached at 519-421-0383 or by accessing the website www.ingamohomes.com.
