ONTARIO - It looks like electric vehicle drivers will be able to charge up at most ONroute highway rest stops next summer.
There are reports that at least two electric vehicle chargers will be installed at 17 of the 23 locations along the 401 and the 400 by summer 2022. Chargers will be installed at three additional locations by the end of next year, but it's still going to be a few years before the locations in Ingersoll, Maple, and Newcastle will have chargers installed due to renovations.
The pay-per-use charging stations will be installed by Hydro One and Ontario Power Generation. Reports suggest this project will not involve direct funding from the province.
The official announcement is expected later today. Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney will address the media in King City this morning with Energy Minister Todd Smith at 9:00 a.m.
