It's a once in a lifetime honour for four members of the Woodstock Police today. The four received Diamond Jubilee Medals, commemorating the Queen's 60th Anniversary in Canada. They are: Deputy Chief Daryl Longworth, Sergeant Marvin Massecar, Sergeant Elaina Taylor and Auxiliary Unit Sergeant Debby Klemp. They were nominated by Police Chief Rod Freeman, who explains why he submitted their names. "I was able to nominate...on the basis of what they've contributed professionally, but additionally, what they've contributed in terms of volunteerism within the community." 14-year Auxiliary officer Debby Klemp was nominated for the medal for her years of dedication as a volunteer with minor hockey, Special Olympics, and the Santa Claus Parade. Deb says, "You live here, you raise your kids here and you want it to be the best it can be. To receive this honour because you do something you have a passion to do...it's incredible. I'm honoured to receive it." Also receiving medals were Sargent Elaina Taylor for her work in the field of domestic violence. Sargent Marvin Massecar , who was a police volunteer offering Critical Stress Counseling to first responders at Ground Zero in New York, and in Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina. And Chief Rod Freeman says he also nominated his Deputy Chief, Daryl Longworth. "He's a 25-year volunteer coach for a variety of local sports programs. In the past he's been a supporter and local police coordinator for Special Olympics, which is a cause that's very near and dear to us in the police profession." More Jubilee Medals will be handed out in a ceremony on Saturday afternoon in Woodstock. Here are summaries of why each individual was nominated: Deputy Chief Daryl Longworth ? a 25 year volunteer coach for a variety of local youth sports programs, supporter and local police coordinator for the Special Olympics.
