Fundraising Group To Raise Money To Send Dancers To Spain

A parent fundraising committee will be holding numerous fundraisers over the next couple of months, in order to raise money to send dancers to Spain in 2017.

WOODSTOCK - A not for profit parent fundraising committee is helping raise money to send young dance students to Spain. The dancers are all from the Move With Grace dance studios. Some dance in Woodstock, others in Cambridge and the rest in the Fergus location.

A Paint Nite fundraiser has already been sold out and as Tamarah Griffioen, a member of the fundraising group, explains the PaintNite has a bit of a Spanish theme.

"50 people getting together and painting a picture and the picture we've chosen to paint is a sailboat with a sunset that kind of has the Spain colours in it with the red and the yellow."

Griffioen also told Heart FM  they will be jailing three men and if the men cannot come up with their bail money for the night they will have to spend the night with the women while paint.

The trip isn't until July 2017 but Griffioen says that they have begun fundraising early because a portion of the cost has to be paid in the coming months.

"Deposits are due in September, the fees for our travel and our stay over there are due in September. 30 days after that another 25 per cent and 30 after that another 25 per cent. So that's why we're starting so early but the trip itself will be next July."

While in Spain the dancers will have the chance to attend a traditional Spanish Flamenco Show and will even have dance classes taught by professional Flamenco dancers. Griffioen added that on top of learning Spanish dances, they will also have the opportunity to represent Canada with by dancing performing their own dances in culture festivals.

"The Woodstock girls will learn a routine here in Woodstock and the Cambridge girls will learn a routine in Cambridge, the Fergus ones in Fergus and they'll put that all together and basically between all the girls they'll be dancing for about an hour at three different festivals."

The fundraising group hopes they can earn enough money so all of the dancers will have the chance to make the trip.
