The Canadian Government has announced they will match donations made to the Red Cross for the Nepal Relief Effort
Donations continue to pile in from Oxford County for the relief efforts in Nepal following two devastating earthquakes.
The Government of Canada has agreed to match any donations made by a single person to the Red Cross until May 25th.
Already in Woodstock-Oxford local residents have donated $14 500 to the Red Cross, and those numbers will double as the government matches donations dollar for dollar.
Manager of Philanthropy in the Province of Ontario for the Red Cross Nancy Twerdohlib tells Heart FM they are only accepting cash donations at this time. She says, "People often send clothing donations and other things and they just aren't feasible to send overseas. A lot of times they get donations of clothing that are not appropriate for the season or culture and it costs a lot of money to ship these items."
Over 8 000 people have died following the two earthquakes in Nepal and countless others were left badly injured and homeless.
