Keep a safe distance from watercourses and off frozen water bodies at this time. That's the message coming from the Grand River Conservation Authority with the coming rainfall and warm temperatures. It will be as warm as 12 degrees on Wednesday, with around 40mm of rain expected over the next few days. As a result ice which formed in rivers and creeks last week is expected to move downstream creating the risk of ice jams and possible flooding. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery and when combined with cold, fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard. As well, ice conditions on frozen water bodies will be changing rapidly over the next few days and will become unsafe. Hazardous conditions are expected to persist throughout the week and into the weekend.
