Local MPP speaks up about potentially problematic increases to Ontario fuel taxes.
OXFORD - According to Ernie Hardeman... it's time to ground the flight tax increase.
The local MPP made the comments Wednesday in Queen's Park in regards to the government's 148 percent increase on aviation fuel tax.
Hardeman believes the increase will be a cost to everyday people and companies and will drive some to look for options outside of Ontario.
In his presentation Hardeman quoted from a letter sent by the Tillsonburg Chamber of Commerce which stated concerns over the impact this tax chance will have on the local and regional levels as well as at the Tillsonburg Regional Airport.
Hardeman says the tax increase will actually result in reduced government revenue, extra costs for families, businesses and lost jobs. He also pointed out that attempting to increase revenues by implementing huge tax increases was short sighted.
A petition has been started online to stop the increase at www.groundtheflighttax.com
