The Annual Ingersoll Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run and BBQ is happening this Saturday.
INGERSOLL - The Annual Ingersoll Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run and BBQ is happening this Saturday.
Members of the OPP, and local special Olympians will be doing a parade down Thames St, Charles St and Mutual St before stopping at the OPP station in Ingersoll. They will be starting the torch run at 10:00 a.m. at the Downtown gazebo in Ingersoll. Ingersoll Community Coordinator for the Special Olympics Karmell Taylor explains why they do the torch run every year.
"We do this to raise awareness for Special Olympics and we carry the torch, because it is just like the Olympics and we have the Provincials coming up in June and three of our athletes will be going and they carry the torch, right into the Olympic games."
Taylor says the three athletes from Ingersoll will be competing in 5 pin bowling at Provincials. She says it is going to be an exciting day.
"We have a bag piper, Charlie, he is going to be leading us in our walk and he is from Ingersoll, and the Mayor will be there and we are hoping we are going to have at least 150 people out there, it is a flame of hope, is what it is."
After the torch run they will have a community BBQ at the Giant Tiger from 11-2 p.m. with all the proceeds going towards the local athletes. You can follow the Ingersoll Special Olympics on there Facebook page here.
