The City of Woodstock is hoping a delegation at this week's city council will shed some light on LED street lights.
WOODSTOCK - The City of Woodstock will get a closer look at the impacts of LED lights.
Woodstock Mayor Trevor Birtch says although they've already heard from Erie Thames Power, more information is always better. "This one is through the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. They have their own LED street light conversion wing that a lot of municipalities have taken advantage of. So this will allow council and opportunity to have a very fulsome discussion from now the two largest LED installers.
Mayor Birtch says this report will help guide council on what steps they should take going forward with the installations. "We can look forward to a finalized report that council had asked for regarding LED lights from a consultant and also the staff report. So that will lay out any special things we need to consider such as maybe adding more light posts and the timing of it - should we do it all in one fell swoop or should we try and do it over a few years."
So far, the community seems to be on board according to Mayor Birtch. "Well from the community we hear nothing but good. So people are starting to, with all the talk about energy, realize that we need to conserve and be more efficient as a city as well as homeowners and businesses."
This isn't a new thing in the County - Ingersoll, Zorra Township, East Zorra Tavistock, and South West Oxford have already made the switch.
