Ward 2 Councillor Lynne DePlancke chaired the Norwich BIA meeting on Tuesday, which included delegations about the Progress banners.
NORWICH - A lot of people attended the most recent Norwich BIA meeting to talk about the Progress banners that were hung throughout the downtown core in support of Pride Month.
About 50 people attended the meeting at the Community Centre on Tuesday, chaired by Ward 2 Councillor and BIA member Lynne DePlancke.
She says most of the people there appeared to be in support of the banners.
"It has been a really tough situation on both sides, but the encouragement that Norwich has received in choosing to put these banners up is overwhelming from the public."
Several banners were stolen shortly after they were first hung on the hydro poles ahead of the May long weekend. The Oxford OPP is investigating the matter and two people have been charged so far; a 47-year-old man from Tillsonburg and a 16-year-old from Norwich Township.
DePlancke says the banners will be replaced.
"The new Progress banners are ordered and they will be hung up again once they're in but we're waiting patiently for those to arrive. So as soon as they're here we will get them back up."
DePlancke says the Oxford OPP will be notified once the new banners are up, so officers can prevent further vandalism.
The Oxford County Pride Committee presented a cheque of about $900 to the Norwich BIA to help replace the banners.
