Norwich Township and the South Norwich Historical Society will share the cost of repairing the Otterville Mill.
OTTERVILLE - Norwich Township Council and the South Norwich Historical Society are teaming up to restore the Otterville Mill.
Director of Finance for the township Mike Legge says the two organizations will be sharing the cost, with the township taking the larger share.
"The work comes to about $ 70, 000 worth of work - the South Norwich Historical Society has $30, 000 to lend to the project so they've asked the township to support the other $40, 000 of the project which council did agree to."
Legge says the building requires a lot of work as it currently stands.
"The south side of the roof had deteriorated so it needed to be replaced and a few repairs on the north side of the roof which was about a $16, 000 dollar tag, window restoration and repairs to the tune of about $4, 000, painting and staining of the whole building which would cost us just over $21, 000 and the biggest part of our project is some foundation repair which is about $28, 000."
Part of the reason council was willing to chip in for the restoration was because they view the building as important to the village's overall aesthetic according to Legge.
"It is a historic building in the village of Otterville that is part of what makes Otterville Otterville. That along with the falls that is there gives the historic feel and is sort of the character of what Otterville is."
