OPP Investigating A Car Crash In Haldimand

A four year-old girl and 13 year-old boy are in hospital following a collision involving two vehicles, including one SUV, on Main Street.

HALDIMAND COUNTY - The Haldimand Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a collision involving two vehicles. 

Haldimand OPP and Haldimand County Paramedic Services responded to a car accident at approximately 12:57pm on March 9th.

An 80-year-old woman from Norfolk County was sitting in her parked car on Main Street when the vehicle accelerated while in reverse.

The vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes of traffic, hitting an SUV and then mounted a curb and collided with two children that were walking on the sidewalk with their family. A 13 year-old boy and four year-old girl were hit. The four year-old girl was subsequently pinned underneath the vehicle and then dragged several yards before the vehicle came to a stop after colliding with a building.

The parents immediately went to their children's aid and both were rushed to a local hospital. The 4 year-old girl was then transported to a hospital in Hamilton and is currently being treated for life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was also transported to a local hospital, however she was not injured. The 13 year-old boy suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The other family members were not injured.

Main Street between Parkview Road and King Street has since been re-opened.
