Oxford County has released their annual report for 2016.
It highlights everything the County accomplished last year including the draft 100% Renewable Energy Plan and Draft Zero Waste Plan that were released last year. CAO for the County Peter Crockett tells Heart FM their is a lot of great information in this report that will be useful to local residents.
"The number of statistics about just exactly what kind of services we deliver and what they mean to the residents, their is a number of things around achievements, the kind of things we have done and how that ties back to our plan, whether it's on our sustainability work, whether it's in terms of building awareness around our home visits, our septic smart launch, there is a number of things going on in the community that we have been working on and it helps provide the community with that insight and that information."
Crockett says the report also shows that Oxford is positioning itself to be a part of the coming transportation shift as new electric vehicle charging stations were installed.
Other examples of Oxford County services that made an impact on everyday lives of residents include:
- Oxford County’s water meter program saw over 11,000 installations of water meters or meter reading equipment. This not only creates a more efficient system of data collection, the new equipment also creates opportunities for small water system users to conserve water and save money on their water bills.
- A final report was issued by Oxford County Public Health and Public Health Ontario as part of the Beachville area air quality assessment which includes ongoing initiatives to provide better information to the public about air quality.
- Approval was given for the first multi-residential affordable housing project to be built to Passive House standard featuring energy efficient design and solar energy use.
- Woodingford Lodge’s Music & MemorySM program is making a major impact on the quality of residents’ lives while reducing medication use.
- Tourism Oxford’s Cheese Trail, no secret to local residents, was provincially recognized with the Ontario Culinary Tourism Leadership Award of Excellence.
- The Oxford County Library launched the kitchen lending library, allowing residents to experiment with kitchen tools and small appliances.
