Oxford County has won a prestigious provincial award on climate action.
WOODSTOCK - Oxford County has won the Climate Action Community of the Year award from the Biomass North Development Centre.
The award is given to a municipality or First Nation in Ontario every year who is making an effort to become a low carbon or zero carbon community. Manager of Strategic Initiatives at the County of Oxford Jay Heaman explains why the County won.
"The sustainability plan of course, but specifically it was the 100 percent renewable leadership and the concept of getting behind zero waste in the Province and in the County in particular. Oxford County is the first municipality in Ontario to make this commitment, it's a pretty bold step, it's always daunting to be the first in and I think that was the main reason they recognized the county."
The awards were handed out in October in North Bay.
