Crime Stoppers of Oxford is celebrating a provincial award win. The local organization was honoured by Crime Stoppers of Ontario this year with the "Marla Moon Award". It's recognition of a great year in 2012 where over 330 tips led to $22,000 in drugs were seized, and over 80 charges laid. But the award also recognizes hard work by the Board of Directors in promoting the program. Coordinator Trevor Lamb says as a result, they're seeing a steady increase in the number of tips, both into the hotline, and website (http://www.oxfordcrimestoppers.com/). "We've seen a huge increase in web tips, as we call them. It's similar to the phone tips, where it is 100% completely anonymous. It's an easier way for people to get us the information. Mostly everybody has smart phones these days, so it's as simple as going on our website, clicking on the "Submit a Tip" tab, and filling out the information." Crime Stoppers Oxford's award is for their population category of under 100,000. Lamb says it's a culmination of a lot of hard work by the local board of directors. "Promoting our program in our community, but also throughout Ontario. It's a pretty prestigious award to win at our training conference."
