OXFORD - The nominees for the 2025 Oxford Stewardship Award have been announced!
Warden Marcus Ryan will present the 2025 Oxford Stewardship Award at the April 22 meeting of County Council. It recognizes County landowners who made contributions to preserve and enhance the nature of their properties such as woodlands, wetlands, streams and meadows.
The nominees are Jim & Minnie Koteles from Zorra, R.M. Matheson Farms from Embro, and the Middle Grand Chapter of Freshwater Conservation Canada from Oxford County.
Jim & Minnie Koteles acquired their 87 acre farm in 1990. They turned it into 58 acres of crop and 30 acres of bushland that border the Wildwood Conservation Authority/Trout Creek in Zorra. They also participated in tree planting initiatives that included local Grade 5 students back in 2009.
R.M. Matheson Farms is owned by Ian and Scott Matheson, with them completing several erosion control projects over the years under the Clean Water Program.
Middle Grand Chapter of Freshwater Conservation Canada from Oxford County is a group who aims to enhance the health, functioning, and species of the network of cold-water tributaries along the Middle Grand River. They have done several projects to help with cold-water tributaries in Oxford County.
The award is chosen by Stewardship Oxford and the Oxford Soil & Crop Improvement Association.
